Historical Record
On 13 September 2021 the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a bill seeking exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical admissions, providing instead for admission based on Class 12 marks. After the Governor returned it, the Assembly re-adopted the bill on 8 February 2022; it remained pending with the President.
Significance
The bill became a central plank of the DMK's argument that NEET disadvantages rural and poor students and erodes the state's right to govern medical admissions.
