Launched on 19 October 2021, Illam Thedi Kalvi ("Education at the Doorstep") deployed lakhs of community volunteers to provide free supplementary tuition to schoolchildren after the COVID-19 learning disruption. The scheme used neighbourhood learning centres and was described as one of India's largest volunteer-based education programmes.

Significance
The scheme became a flagship education initiative of the DMK government, addressing pandemic-era learning loss through mass community participation.
